The Vision 2030 program by Singapore Sports Council has been launched. The website, powered by a tool called Uservoice, allows people to come together to share and discuss ideas.

A note from Lim Teck Yin, SSC CEO

How does sport add value to your life and the lives of your team and community? This is not a question that seeks an abstract answer, but one that asks us to ponder about the hard facts of what is needed for us to live healthy, happy and meaningful lives. We were born to move and play; we were born as social beings; we are raised to compete and excel (hopefully with the right values); and we are inspired by greatness.

So how can we develop sports in Singapore for it to be a force for the betterment of our lives? Many of you have already written to us, either by posting on the website, emailing us or sending us a letter with ideas and suggestions. It has been a great beginning, and I look forward to hearing more of your thoughts and views. Together, we can shape the sports scene in Singapore for the future.

Among all the ideas, eSports was brought up as a topic by the public. “eSports as a form of sport and have an eSports program in SG” received 100+ votes from time of report.

Head on down and tell us what you think and vote if you support the agenda.

It is with great regret that SCOGA has decided to end our working relationship with Miss Mary Anne Lee.
Her dedication to gaming will always be valued.
Our organization believes it will be challenging to continue working with Miss Lee due to her involvement with a certain team that openly broadcasts obscene and racist content. This public image is incompatible with SCOGA’s cyber wellness programs and initiatives.
We will always appreciate her many contributions to SCOGA.
She will be missed and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

Singapore GameFEST 2010: Day 3

Day 3 of SGF was simple, really. The Digital Youth Awards Finals were going to be played. The EPIC Convention began. There were cosplayers, and tonnes and tonnes of people!

The audience was also treated to some lightsaber duels! It’s a pity they weren’t accompanied by sound effects.

Christmas came a little early :P  The increase in visitors from the cosplay fest also contributed to a larger number of people sitting down to try out SCOGA’s adopted Singapore GameBox games!

Tournament results will be out in the next post! In the meantime, scroll down to hear more about the casual StarCraft II 4v4 overnight LAN party!

A historical Singapore vs Malaysia match at the Digital Youth Awards Digital Sports World Finals started at 8pm.

Philibert and Ryan (looking really happy despite a lack of sleep) shoutcasted the semis and finals of the gamers’ party. The other players were no less gleeful.

Singapore GameFEST 2010: Day 2

The second day of SGF dawned bright and early with the Young Cyber Wellness Achiever Awards.

Pupils and teachers from various schools came down to view cyber wellness exhibits. They were later treated to an hour’s free play in SGF! This was followed by the award ceremony proper, where the teachers in charge received certifications of participation on behalf of their respective schools. Starhub was also presented with a token of appreciation for their support of the programme.

Friday also saw the start of the Digital Youth Awards Heroes of Newerth Digital Sports World Finals. Singapore’s own Team Impunity, supported by SCOGA, were there in their awesome jackets courtesy of Lenovo!

The World Finals were shoutcasted by the awesome TobiWonKenobi and breakycpk.

Project Rampage also kicked off with a series of mini events, ending witha  1v1 Invitationals later in the night.

To top it all off, Friday marked the first of the overnight programmes SGF had. Two World of Warcraft guilds sat down to compete in timed hardmode raids in Icecrown Citadel. Both would receive the Cataclysm Collector’s Edition for their participation (one copy only, best roll wins :p) but the first guild to down the Lich King that night would receive an extra copy! Elementium of Barthilas Alliance and I Believe In Aliens of Thaurissan Horde were there to represent!

Elementium also enjoyed some Singapore GameBox games before the start of their raid…
