Singapore, November 16, 2012 – One of the most highly anticipated gaming events of the year is back. Into its fourth year, Licence2Play 2012 promises gaming fans a good time filled with the latest games in the market as well as exciting competitions.

Game highlights

Blizzard Entertainment will excite the crowd with its best-selling games – World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria, Diablo III, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty and its upcoming expansion,StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm. With fun activities, demo stations and awesome prizes to be given away, Blizzard Entertainment’s booth will be a definite hit with the visitors. Some of the other popular games which will be featured at Licence2Play include SuperStar Liveby IAH Games and World Of Tanksby Wargaming, a team-based massively multiplayer online action game which has captivated gamers all over Southeast Asia. Competitions and Cosplay

At this year’s Licence2Play, fans of cosplay will get to meet two celebrity cosplayers – Asahi Martha and Ginga Ion. Martha, a well-known cosplayer, has been cosplaying since 2006. She has graced the international photobook “Summer Time” with an exclusive photoshoot in France and Paris and recently performed at the 2012 World Cosplay Summit Cure Cosplayers Collection and the Collection night at the Tokyo game show 2012. Ginga Ion is a veteran cosplayer based in the Kantou. She is part of the all-girls cosplay performance group Venas Sisters, and has also performed at various big-name ACG events throughout Japan such as the “Be-Bit” and “Cure Cosplay Collection Night at Tokyo Game Show 2012.

SAN FRANCISCO – Gaming juggernauts Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo may have dominated headlines at last week’s Electric Entertainment Expo (E3), but thanks to www.singaporegamebox.com, Singaporean game developers have their own soapbox for the international gaming community.

The portal, an initiative under the Singapore Game Box outreach programme by the Media Development Authority (MDA) designed to promote Singapore-made games, features the best of local productions and serves as a platform for gamers to experience games developed on this tiny island.

There are currently 25 games available on www.singaporegamebox.com and next month, the portal will welcome the addition of Dark Dot, a development by GAMBIT Game Lab Singapore and the only local game to be featured in the IndieCade showcase at this year’s E3.

To further celebrate the indie gaming community in Singapore, the MDA has also teamed up with the Singapore Cybersports and Online Gaming Association to launch the Singapore Game Box IndieCity Competition 2012.

The competition, which runs from June 6 to July 6 this year, will invite participants to play four specially selected games, Call of Hens, Sarah Ghost: The Sewer Defenders, Deep Quest and Armor Valley, all made by developers in Singapore and available for free download at http://www.indiecity.com.

Two players will be selected to receive an all-expense paid trip to Singapore to compete in the Singapore Grand Finals held in December, where the three top players stand to win up to US$2,300 (S$2,900) in prizes.

IndieCity Project Lead Chris Swan said: “IndieCity has always been focused on promoting indie development, and we believe that it’s important this should happen not just on a local scale, but globally as well. The Singapore Game Box competition not only highlights the creativity and the passion of Singapore-based developers, but proves that IndieCity is a global portal which can bring together gamers and developers from across the world.”

Gamers can visit www.indiecity.com to download the games and take part in the Singapore Game Box IndieCity Competition 2012. Winners will be announced on the IndieCity website and blog.

 

The Games

Call of Hens: A casual strategy game in which the player assumes the role of the mother hen tasked with defending her chicks against a menacing eagle. Players can make use of brick walls and crates to eliminate the eagle while keeping the chicks safely in game.

Sarah Ghost: The Sewer Defenders: An action adventure where players assume the role of young scientists working their way within the sewers to unravel the mystery of Sarah’s parents disappearance. Players have to defeat mutated creatures in the sewer in their quest to discover the truth.

Armor Valley: Armor Valley combines the thrill of a fast-paced shooter with the intrigue of real-time strategy. Players will have to deploy troops while overseeing the whole warzone, and get the right mix of attack and defence if they want to have any hope defeating the enemy.

Deep Quest: Deep Quest takes you to the watery realms of the Deep, where an epic battle between Abyssians and Gordlons is underway. You will command the Abyssian Defence Force and undertake 10 Quests, each with unique maps and challenges.

Clementi Game Fest

Singapore’s Cybersports & Online Games Association (SCOGA), Clementi Community Centre (Friends of Clementi) and Clementi Youth Executive Committee (YEC) is proud to bring you, Clementi Game Festival 2. This is the second installment of the games festival that was held last year on 24th April 2012. This year, Clementi Game Fest 2, will be held over two days, on the 9th and 10th June 2012. Additionally, Clementi Game Festival 2 will also play host to South East Asia Major 2012: Road to EVO Singapore,  the largest and longest-running fighting game tournament in the world.

South East Asia Major 2012: Road to EVO Singapore is fully sanctioned and is open to international competitors to fly into Singapore to compete and acquire EVO points for their overall ranking.

This is also the first major event held in Clementi Community Centre since its major renovation overhaul. Clementi Games Fest and EVO participants will get to enjoy their favourite games in the comfort of the centre’s new fully air-conditioned multi-purpose hall. South East Asia Major 2012: Road to EVO Singapore will feature Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, King of Fighters XIII, Street Fighters X Tekken, Soul Calibur V with a side competition for the FIFA 12.

There will be carnival activities for the enjoyment of all ages and is expected to attract participants of all ages in fun family time.
