Why am we sending gamers to Germany? SCOGA is all about promoting excellence, cyber excellence. You are not sending gamers to Germany for a holiday, you are sending committed Cybersportsmen to win a medal for Singapore in what is hailed as the equivalent of the cyber Olympics.
Why these gamers could not fly in the first place? Please see this article from the Straits Times, Digital Life for a full understanding of the background here.
Who is SCOGA? We are a registered society to promote cyber excellence in Singapore. Please see www.SCOGA.org for more details.
How much do you need exactly? Honestly at this point, it is difficult to give an exact breakdown of the exact dollar needed because of 3 variables :
1. Air Ticket Prices (estimated at around S$2,000 or more depending on flights),
2. Currency Exchange Differences – especially if you are donating by PayPal
3. Extra expenses in Germany itself – whether meals will be covered.
SCOGA aims to raise S$5,000/- (est. US$3,600) per gamer to at least cover air travel, accommodations, and tournament entrance fees. If there is slight excess, the gamers can use it to cover meals, up to a maximum of S$5,000/- in total per gamer.
Our medal hopefuls are Wilson and Phirkhan and they will be given priority in our fundraising which is the first S$10,000/-. The next medal hopeful is Danny so he'll be given the next priority. Then we hope that for the longterm development of the cybersports scene in Singapore, that we'll be able to raise for the rest of the WCG Singapore winners as well – which makes 6 gamers in total of S$30,000 (est. US$22,000).
What if you did not raise enough money? We will exhaust all possible options to at least raise enough money to send the first two medal hopefuls – Wilson and Phirkhan. If possible, with your support we hope to send all 6 of these cyber sportsman to represent Singapore.
What if there are surpluses? We find this to be an unlikely scenario. As far as possible, we will stop collections once our target of S$30,000/- is reached. However, if we do land in this circumstance, we will publish the exact surplus amount and donate to a charity of choice, preferably one that is committed to cyber-wellness and cyber-excellence.
What if we want to sponsor in kind? As this might be quite tricky, SCOGA reserves the right not to accept this donation. For example, we would not know what to do with 50 packets of chicken rice. However, if say we receive a donation of a laptop computer, we will likely sell off the product(S) based on a reasonable market price and add the money to the pool of funds collected.
Can I do more than just a donation? Like a sponsorship? Yes, you can work with SCOGA or the gamers on a sponsorship or ambassadorship instead of just a donation. However, as our timeline is short, we would need this sponsorship engagement to be expedited rather quickly. Or at least for the funds to come in first. Please use the contact form and try to be specific as possible.
Isn't Wilson the guy who slapped the manager in China? Why are we supporting him? Yes, it was a really unfortunate situation in Wuhan which is one of the reasons why SCOGA is needed in this community, to bring about the much needed regulation and control. Wilson has been very regretful of what he did in Wuhan, and has also been doing a lot to give back to his gaming community by conducting regular trainings and helping raise funds for the other Virtua Fighter representative - Danny. He has also been doing community services at large. SCOGA is also working with him to develop him into a gamer of not just good skills but good reputation, because he is well-loved in the communities in which he has been serving in.
From the Straits Times article you guys referenced, Phirkhan seems to be having a high income, why does he need our financial support? Phirkhan comes from a family with a weak financial background and he is not in the workforce yet. The income he had for gaming was for last year which is no longer valid.
What if I want to donate in cash? It is not advised as teh logistics may be hard to arrange. However, do use the contact form and we'll get in touch with you.
Are these even official games in WCG in Germany? Yes they are, the list of official games can be found here.
