FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Singapore Will Be Represented at EVO Street Fighter 4 World Finals USA
SINGAPORE, July 18, 2011 – Singapore’s Cybersports and Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) will be sponsoring an air ticket for Eng Ghim Kee (Gackt) to represent Singapore in the EVO Finals in USA. SCOGA will also be covering lodging expenses for two other Singaporeans, Leslie Cheong (Sagat) and Kun-Xian Ho (Xian). In total, three persons will represent Singapore in the EVO World Finals, which will be held at Rio Las Vegas, from 29th to 31st July 2011.
EVO World Finals is the concluding event for this year’s Evolution Championship Series (EVO for short). EVO represents the largest and longest-running fighting game tournament in the world. EVO events attract the best players from around the world in a dazzling exhibition of skill and fun, as players and fans gather to honour the competitive spirit in an open format to determine a champion.
On 24th April 2011, Clementi Game Festival 2011 was held, as part of a partnership between SCOGA, Clementi New Media Champions (Friends of Clementi), People’s Association Youth Movement (PAYM) and SGFighter (a local Street Fighter 4 community).
The EVO Singapore Street Fighter 4 qualifiers were conducted at Clementi Game Festival 2011, with the prize being a trip to Las Vegas for the EVO World Finals. Eng Ghim Kee (Gackt) triumphed in the final match-up, winning the prize of a sponsored flight to the EVO World Finals.
In line with SCOGA’s mission to make Singapore a global leader in gaming and eSports through positive engagements with local gaming, SCOGA decided to sponsor the three gamers to the EVO World Finals. This underlines SCOGA’s commitment to our mission.
SCOGA is always on the lookout for international opportunities for Singaporean gamers to represent the country, and will have more exciting announcements lined up in the near future.
